Symposium on conservation of art on paper

From: Stephen Todd <stephen.todd>
Date: Thursday, August 13, 1998
The second UK Symposium on the conservation of art on paper is to be
held at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) Birmingham UK, on
September 8th.

This symposium is the second this year, and is still at the seminar
stage of discussing nomenclature and quality of mountboard as used
by commercial framers. The organisers are a well known manufacturer
of mountboard but other, UK manufacturers are present, as are
professional conservators, representatives of the UK's Fine Art
Trade Guild (FATG) and the Institute of Paper Conservation (IPC).

We believe that commercial framers have an important role to play in
preventive conservation and can be confused by the variety of terms
used to describe mountboard.

Places are virtually all taken up, but this posting is designed to
create awareness and to elicit input from museum workers or other
conservators in the related field which might emphasise their views
on problems caused by poor practice by commercial framers.
