Microfilming

Margaret: in response to your post on the Conservation-list, yes,
you can film 11 X 17 documents on a 16mm camera, but you must look
for a camera with that capability; not all will do it. We have a
Minolta DR 1600; at 25x, you can fit 11 X 17 documents if you use
the double-wide exposure. (we film musical scores submitted for the
theses requirement this way.) Our camera will also adjust to 32x.
You might be able to find a camera that will film at 40x or greater,
giving you more images per roll, but beware: the image on your
microfilm reader will be quite small unless you have a reader that
can enlarge these images substantially. And yes, you can film to
ANSI standards for archival microfilm on 16mm film. Archival film
is not restricted to 35mm. Please feel free to contact me if can be
of any further assistance.
