Date: Tuesday, July 21, 1998
Joint RLG and NPO Preservation Conference
Guidelines for Digital Imaging
An international three-day residential conference
organized by RLG, NPO, and JISC
and coordinated by UKOLN
Scarman House, University of Warwick
Monday 28, Tuesday 29 and
Wednesday 30 September 1998
Cost: 295 pounds sterling per delegate

This international conference, which carries the overall theme of
Guidelines for Digital Imaging, will include speakers from the
United States and the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada. It
will be a working conference, designed for those with experience in
digital imaging projects who wish to contribute toward the
development of international agreement on best practices and uniform
approaches to reformatting of library, archival and museum
collections through digitization.

In addition to a keynote address given by Anne R. Kenney (Cornell
University) there are three major sessions on:

    Selection for digital imaging
    Preparation of materials for digitization
    Digital image capture

Each of these topics will be addressed by speakers from the US and
the UK; conference participants will choose one of the three topics
for intensive work to outline common practices and reach consensus
on draft guidelines.

Update presentations will be given on

    Preservation metadata
    Digital preservation

And an international panel of experts will provide responses to the
conference at its close (speakers include representatives from the
UK, Canada, and Australia).
