Head of Mass-deacidification programme

This is a permanent full-time position at the Swiss National
Library, starting October 1st 1998 or at a date to be agreed. The
Swiss National Library is carrying out a conservation strategy for
its collections which  are threatened by embrittlement due to acidic
paper. It is built on a combination of mass deacidification,
microfilming and other preventive measures. The construction of a
federally-funded mass-deacidification plant will start in spring
1999. Mass-deacidification will start at the end of 1999.

Responsibilities: We are looking for an innovative, resilient person
with a proven track-record for this demanding position as head of
the mass-deacidification programme. The areas of responsibility
include strategic planning of items to be treated, organisation of
internal work flow, staff management, public relations, plus
initiating and accompanying research projects in the field of paper

Qualifications: You have a scientific background, or are a
conservator with a higher diploma or are a specialist in the paper
industry. You have excellent organisational and communication
skills, and have some desk-top computing experience. You speak and
write German.
