Subject: Vacuum cleaners
I am shopping for a canister vac which will be suitable for collections care (including cleaning textiles) for a large and varied collection of fine art, decorative and miscellaneous objects. Two of the models marketed by University Products (portable, HEPA models; one with variable suction; $250-$500 range) looked very promising. Both have been discontinued. Alternatively, Im considering various commercial HEPA models (VitaVac, Eureka Excalibur models and Miele) and several additional models with better-than-average filtration (one by Miele, one by Simplicity), but not "true HEPA". Top-of-the-line Nilfisk or Kirby models are out (too pricey). Comments and suggestions would be very welcome, including the merits of having both variable suction and "true HEPA" filtration. Also, has anyone taken a commercial vac and rigged a variable suction mechanism? Im also curious to know if anyone had experience with the former University Products models. Is it worth pursuing the manufacturer for a direct sale?
