Leather hinge repairs

From: Andrea Hathaway <hathaway>
Date: Wednesday, July 8, 1998
During my research on possible in house repairs for a preservation
plan that I am working on I came across directions for Japanese
paper hinge repairs for 19th and 20th century leather bound books
that was printed in the volume 19 number 3 issue of the Abbey
Newsletter.

I was wondering does anyone currently do this type of repair on half
backed leather books in their collections and can give me some more
specifics or input about implementing this type of repair in our
library. Also I have some concerns about using a leather
consolidator such a Klucel G as listed in the directions on the
books, what are the pros and cons of this type of repair?
