Professional salaries

I continue to be astonished at the low salaries some institutions
feel compelled to offer for professional people to handle their
valuable materials. A textile conservator at the offered salary
($22,800) could be excused for thinking that they were considered
next door to a tie-dyer or a dry-cleaner, either of which probably
could make more money. The Gardner should know better. Pleading
low funding is no excuse; it's a choice one makes. --pg
