Ethics

Here's another question that comes out of the very interesting
discussion on replying to the List. (I should look it up but am too
lazy.) Does the AAM Code of Ethics require that institutions honor
the codes of the professionals employed there? I do not mean that
the museum itself abide by every code but that it honors the desire
of employees to abide by their own. This would make it unethical
for a museum to ask an employee to do something against the
employee's professional code of ethics. If there were a
stipulation, then that should mean both that an employer cannot
forbid a conservator to do documentation and that it cannot prevent
an employee from engaging in the open exchange of information among
colleagues.

If the AAM model code does not include this, I suggest the AIC Board
look into the matter.
