Incumbent is assigned to the Paper Conservation Department within
the National Gallery's Conservation Division. Monitors supply
levels, orders supplies and other equipment as directed. Logs art
objects in and out and transports art between paper conservation
laboratory and other designated locations in the Gallery.  Monitors
light levels in exhibition galleries and assists conservators in
checking condition of art received for exhibition. Assists in
photographing art objects and making beta-radiographs for
watermarks. Assists matter/framers as necessary and as directed.
Maintains files and incorporates information into computer database
system.

This position is a permanent federal position and is classified at
the GS-9 level. Those applicants who meet the minimum qualification
requirements will be evaluated against these factors to determine
the best qualified candidate.

    1. Aptitude to perform condition examinations of works of art
    and to use appropriate technical scientific equipment .

    2. Skill in working with and handling fine arts materials and
    works of art.

    3. Ability to operate personal computers utilizing
    appropriate word processing and database management software.

    4. Ability to establish, maintain, and organize technical and
    scientific files and records.
