SOLINET, Inc., the Southeastern Library Network, is pleased to
introduce our Summer 1998 preservation workshop schedule;

Attack of the Giant Mold Spore:  Simple, Safe Techniques to Recover
>From a Mold Outbreak.  Mold is a constant threat to collections,
particularly in climates with high heat and humidity.  This half-day
workshop provides a general introduction to identifying mold, the
types of damage it causes to collection materials, and techniques
for safe mold removal and cleaning.  Dr. Michael Trinkley, Director
of Chicora Foundation is the instructor for this session.

The workshop is scheduled for Thursday, July 23 at the University of
South Florida, Tampa, from 9 am - 12 noon.

Cost is $70 for SOLINET members ($60 early bird, $95 late); $100
Non-SOLINET & FEDLINK ($90 early bird, $125 late). Any institution in
Florida qualifies for the member rate.

Archives Preservation:  Holdings Maintenance.  Tuesday, August 11
from 10 am to 5 pm at the Atlanta History Center, Atlanta, GA

Holdings maintenance, the basic preservation procedures incorporated
into arrangement and description duties, is recognized as a
fundamental component of archives preservation.  This one-day
workshop outlines the major activities and goals of a holdings
maintenance program. The focus is on stabilizing materials through
preventive activities such as removing damaging fasteners,
re-housing and encapsulation.  Instructor for this session is Sharla
Richards, Field Service Officer at SOLINET.

Cost is $95 for SOLINET members ($85 early bird, $120 late); $135
Non-SOLINET & FEDLINK ($125 early bird, $160 late).  Any institution
in Georgia qualifies for the member rate.

Disaster Preparedness and Recovery. Libraries and archives are
vulnerable to a variety of disasters ranging from fires and flooding
to roof leaks and mold outbreaks.  Through lecture, group exercises
and demonstrations, this one-day workshop will provide the training
necessary to plan, organize and execute a disaster plan and salvage
operation. Christine Wiseman, Field Service Officer at SOLINET, is
the instructor for this workshop.

The session is scheduled for Thursday, August 20 from 9 am to 4 pm
at East Carolina University, Greenville, NC.

Cost is $95 for SOLINET members ($85 early bird, $120 late); $135
Non-SOLINET & FEDLINK ($125 early bird, $160 late).  Any institution
in North Carolina qualifies for the member rate.

"Hurricane Preparedness:  Making Sure Your Institution Survives the
Big One" is scheduled for Monday, August 24 at Universidad Catholica
de Puerto Rico, Ponce, PR

Learn about steps that can be taken before a storm hits that can
increase an institutions' chances for minimizing damage; and steps
that can be taken to minimize loss after the storm.  This one-day
workshop focuses on the nature of hurricanes, general issues in
developing a disaster plan, making your institution storm-proof,
activities before, during and after the storm, and sources of
assistance. Instructor for this session is Dr. Michael Trinkley,
Director of Chicora Foundation.

Cost is $95 for SOLINET members ($85 early bird, $120 late); $135
Non-SOLINET & FEDLINK ($125 early bird, $160 late). Any institution
in Puerto Rico qualifies for the member rate.
