Subject: Paintings
The first object is a wall-painting from the 1930s, carried out using oil paint on plaster. It is located indoors (luckily) but in a quite exposed location in a school. The surface is partially water-damaged and the remaining paint is severely delaminating from the plaster underneath. The water-damage happened in the past. The need for conservation treatment is urgent (and has been so for several years...). Treatment would include: partial consolidation of plaster, consolidation of paint-layer, cleaning, surface protection and finally retouching. The other problem is two painted wooden panels located outdoors. They are part of the entrance to one of Sweden's oldest cinemas--"Saga" in Kalmar. The remaining paint (oil) is flaking and the wooden surface is brittle. The main problem is to find protection from sunlight and rain in the future due to the exposed location. Some retouching is needed as well as consolidation of the wooden surface and the remaining paint. I wonder if there is somebody out there who has experience from similar treatments? If so, it would be useful to learn which techniques were applied and possibly also an evaluation of the final result. The work is about to start in a couple of weeks. Thanks in advance.
