Subject: NAFTA
A client museum has conducted a nationwide search for conservation/collections care interns (one 3-month, one 15-month). The only candidates that are both qualified and available are from Canada. In checking with the US Immigrations and Naturalization Service, the H-1B and similar visas all have been given out for the year. NAFTA allows easier entry into the US for Canadians, but only in specific categories. As would be expected, neither museums nor conservation are listed. Has anyone had success in bringing Canadians to work short-term in US museums? Is it possible to approach the internships (they carry a stipend) from an educational angle? Any assistance would be appreciated, Marc Williams President, American Conservation Consortium, Ltd. *** Conservation DistList Instance 12:3 Distributed: Tuesday, June 16, 1998 Message Id: cdl-12-3-013 ***Received on Tuesday, 16 June, 1998
