The incumbent is responsible for the supervision and management of a
newspaper collation operation. Unit staff consist of one full-time
assistant and up to eight graduate-student collators. Sufficient
unit productivity is balanced with necessary adherence to current
preservation standards and practices. An average 30,000 pages are
delivered to microfilm vendors from the NYSNP each month. The
Microfilm Coordinator issues and reviews RFI, initiates vendor
contacts, negotiates contracts, and evaluates preservation options
for the Project. Unit activities include newspaper retrieval from
remote sites, inventory, collation, disbinding, mending and other
treatments, targeting, shipping, microfilm inspection, and return of
filmed papers to lenders. Detailed paper and electronic files are
maintained for every newspaper handled. Salary is $33,000 annual.
