House museums

You might try contacting the U.S. National Park Service.  It's done
quite a few projects like this, including the James A. Garfield
Historic Site in Mentor, Ohio.  I don't have numbers for any of its
regional offices, but the general site is at
<URL:http://www.nps.gov>. The NPS also has a publication series
available called "Preservation Briefs".  These are online at
<URL:http://www.oldhousejournal.com>
