Care of Photographic, Moving Image, and Sound Collections 20-24 July 1998 University College of Ripon and York, St John, York This 5 day conference is one of the official events of "Photo 98", the Arts Council Year of Photography and the Electronic Image. It will be the first major international conference about the collective care of these associated materials to take place in this country. It is intended to bring together all those with responsibility for the welfare of such collections. A large number of papers have been selected both from this country and abroad, all of a very high standard. The conference is organised by the Institute of Paper Conservation (IPC) with support from the Society of Archivists. The venue is also the home of the Yorkshire Film Archive. The aims of the conference are: 1. To provide a platform for British research, institutions and societies 2. To outline the main areas of research world-wide and likely developments for the future (including the role of digital technology in the care of these collections). 3. To provide a clear view of what is accepted practice. The aims of the conference are supported by major national institutions, including the Museums and Galleries Commission, National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, Royal Photographic Society, National Film and Television Archive of the British Film Institute, British Library National Sound Archive, National Preservation office and Yorkshire and Humberside Museums Council. As part of the conference, visits to relevant museums, archives and historic houses will be included. There will be a full social programme including a welcome reception and conference dinner. There will also be a trade fair. Discounts will be available for members of the IPC and the Society of Archivists. Registration (non-residents): 335 Pounds (for IPC and Society of Archivists members) and 375 Pounds(non-members). Residential fees are correspondingly increased by 100 Pounds. The fees include attendance at all sessions, visits to relevant museums, archives and historic houses, post prints, Trade Fair, opening reception and the conference dinner at the Grand Assembly Rooms. Places are limited and are being offered on a first come first served basis. Stands are available for exhibitors at the Trade Fair. The fee for exhibiting for the 20 and 21 of July is 300 Pounds and includes a 3 x 2 m table and drape stand, morning and afternoon tea/coffee, 2 luncheon tickets per day and an invitation to attend an evening reception at the York City Art Gallery together with the conference delegates.
