The organizers of Restoration & Renovation invite proposals for
conference presentations relating to restoration, renovation, and
rehabilitation, as well as historic and traditional design. Two
conferences are being planned: for Los Angeles (December 2-3-1998 at
the Los Angeles Convention Center), and Washington, DC (January
28-30, 1999 at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park).

Restoration & Renovation is the largest commercial trade exhibition
and conference for the preservation, maintenance and re-creation of
traditional buildings, period design and craft. Since 1993,
successful events have been held in Boston, San Francisco,
Baltimore, Chicago and Atlanta.

The Restoration audience is a professional and trade audience,
including architects, contractors, artisans, engineers, specifiers,
designers, facility managers, urban planners, preservation experts,
property owners, and others with an interest in historic
preservation or re-creation. An average of 75 people attend each
conference session. Continuing education credits are provided by
the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the International
Interior Design Association (IIDA).

Sessions are 1-1/2 hour in duration and typically feature two
speakers. Most presentations will be grouped according to the themes
listed below. The topics given below are meant to suggest
possibilities, not exclude new ideas, and we welcome presentations
on any topic related to restoration, preservation, or period design.

    * Interior Design (lighting, furnishings, period design,
        landscapes)

    * Resource Types (public, institutional, commercial,
        religious, residential, gardens)

    * Building Restoration (e.g. building envelope, facilities
        management, maintenance)

    * Materials And MEDIA (use and repair of different materials
including wood, metal, stone, glass, etc.)

    * "Green" Technology (environmentally sound materials and
        restoration practices)

Proposals are also welcome for more intensive workshops. These
typically have a maximum of 100 attendees. While not necessarily
offering "hands-on" training, the workshops go into a subject in
more depth, can involve demonstrations, and range from three hours
to full-day sessions. We recommend that you call us to discuss a
workshop topic before sending a proposal in writing. Workshop
proposals should include information about the kinds of materials
you will provide and special set-up needed (demonstration areas,
audio-visual equipment, etc.).

Proposals are being accepted for two venues: Los Angeles and
Washington, DC. Include a note about where you would like to speak--
L.A., Washington, or both--plus a brief abstract or summary, a brief
resume or biography of the speaker(s), and contact information. Feel
free to call or write us if you would like to discuss a possible
proposal.

Proposal deadline for both shows: June 1, 1998
