I am not a participating conservator, but a practicing artist, and I
have a business hand-painting silk with acid dyes. I used to be a
collections manager, and am familiar with standard conservation /
preservation practice, so wet washing silk was beyond my scope
during my collections care career. When recommending care for
contemporary silk, the manufacturer suggests dry-cleaning, but I
would like to offer a good hand-washing substitute. Is Orvus a
responsible alternative? Any help would be appreciated.
