Asbestos contaminated book collection

Is anyone aware of any "safe, effective" techniques that have been
used in institutions to decontaminate books that have been exposed
to asbestos dust? Our Environmental Health and Safety officer has
asked me to solicit information concerning any "recommended
techniques" for removal of asbestos dust from these books, a number
of which are old and brittle. Has anyone worked with environmental
health officials in dealing with such a problem?  I would appreciate
any information you can share with me.
