Sympatex

My conservation supplies catalogue lists a material called
"Sympatex" which it says is a cheaper alternative to Gore-Tex. It is
definitely cheaper, but I am wondering if anyone is familiar with
its use.  Does it really perform as well as Gore-Tex?  I'd be
grateful for any information.  Thanks.
