Conservation Technician Colonial Williamsburg is seeking a conservation technician to work on an exhibition of American and English silver for the new Gaiser Silver Gallery. This is a temporary position ending on 10/31/98. The technician will assist the conservation staff in the examination and treatment of the metals collections under the supervision of the laboratory manager. The technician will also prepare associated documentation including surveys, treatment proposals & reports, and object photography. The technician will also operate and maintain lab equipment and will be responsible for the preparation of solvents, cleaning mixtures, polish formulas, and lacquers. Minimum qualifications include a general knowledge of conservation and experience in handling museum objects and working in a museum environment. Knowledge of historic metals and effective oral and written communication skills. All of the above generally gained through any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and one year experience as a conservation technician or equivalent museum experience. Note: conservation laboratory experience in metals or objects conservation, graduate level studies or degree in conservation or a related field, and/or experience with museum exhibition are pluses Hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 7.5 hours daily, 37.5 hours weekly.
