SOLINET is pleased to introduce our Spring 1998 preservation workshop schedule; Library Binding for Preservation: This one day session will provide the tools you need to make appropriate library binding decisions that balance your preservation goals and your financial realities. Topics covered include: book structure and modern book manufacturing, what really happens as the bindery, working with your binder, evaluating and writing contracts. Instructors for this session are Sharla Richards, Preservation Field Service Officer, SOLINET and JC. Noyes, Marketing Manager, Bridgeport National Bindery. The workshop is scheduled for Thursday, April 16, 1998 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Ringling School of Art and Design, Sarasota, FL Cost is $85 for SOLINET members ($75 early bird, $110 late registration); $125 Non-SOLINET members & FEDLINK ($115 early bird, $150 late). Preserving Scarce Resources: A Wellness Program for Libraries and Archives: Preservation, as the maintenance of collections, has a role in all types of libraries: it's a means of protecting the investment in your collections. This session provides an introduction to the principles of preservation in libraries and archives. It emphasizes preventive measures, and outlines the components of a comprehensive preservation program. The instructor is Julie Arnott, Manager of Preservation Services at SOLINET. Cosponsored and partially funded by the Panhandle Library Access Network (PLAN), the workshop is scheduled for Friday, May 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Tallahassee Community College, Tallahassee, FL. Cost is $85 for SOLINET members ($75 early bird, $110 late registration); $125 Non-SOLINET members & FEDLINK ($115 early bird, $150 late). Intermediate Book Repair: This 2-day hands-on workshop is designed to hone repair skills learned in Fundamentals of Book Repair. Participants are able to practice more advanced techniques for general collections repair, as well as construct enclosures for special collections. Discussion addresses treatment decision making, properties of adhesives, and managing a book repair operation. Participation in SOLINET's Fundamentals of Book Repair workshop is a prerequisite for registration. Instructors are Sharla Richards and Christine Wiseman, SOLINET Preservation Field Service Officers.
