Repairing animation cels

I am interested in your recommendations for a tape (or other
material) to use on animation cels.  The tape would be used to help
prevent further damage where breaks or tears have already occurred.
These cels are subject to handling and viewing, and ideally the
appearance should not be compromised.  Please also comment if there
are materials to avoid from a chemical, or other, point of view.
