I don't know any researchers is the US but I know there is a person
here in Holland who has done some research (at the AKZO-lab in
Arnhem, Holland) on medieval manuscripts using Raman-microscopy.
Contact Dr. Han Neevel at ICN (Institute for Cultural Heritage in
Holland), phone-number of the ICN is +31-20-6735162 (don't know if
they have e-mail). In England there are Robin Clark and Peter Gibbs
who did research for the British Library last year, but I don't know
anything about their whereabouts.
