Subject: Mass deacidification
The "mass deacidification" system that Nora Lockshin in inquiring about (referred to in the NY times, 3/17/98) is actually the new paper splitting equipment that was engineered by Ernst Becker's engineering company in Germany. This equipment enables the new Zentrum fur Buch-Erhaltung (Center for Book Preservation) there to split and reinforce paper; deacidification is one facet of this treatment. This newly-privatized (11/97) preservation center in Germany, incorporating staff and equipment formerly operating at the Deutsche Bucherei (German Library) in Leipzig, is offering a wide range of preservation services for a fee, including deacidification utilizing the Battelle equipment, conservation, reformatting, etc. For more information, interested parties could request a copy of a new brochure and other relevant literature from Dr. Ernst Becker Managing Director ZFB Zentrum fur Buch-Erhaltung GmbH Mommsenstrasse 7, D-04329 Leipzig, Germany <Info [at] ZFB__com> *** Conservation DistList Instance 11:79 Distributed: Wednesday, March 25, 1998 Message Id: cdl-11-79-003 ***Received on Friday, 20 March, 1998
