The "ultrasonic mister" is a type of "pen humidifier", recommended
for misting consolidants and other conservation solutions, including
water. Its description can be found in Journal of AIC, 36 (1997),p.
107 to 141, and more specifically pp. 127 to 130 concerns the
machine itself. A description will also be published in the
forthcoming Getty publication, "Painted Wood". A smooth reducing
taper was found essential to minimize the problem of condensation
droplets; however, blotting paper was also used within the nozzle to
absorb droplets that inevitably form during use.
