The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is an agency of the Commonwealth of
Virginia.  The Museum has a mission of educating the public in Fine
Arts. In this endeavor, the Museum is charged with the care of a
Fine Arts Collection.

Purpose of Contract: To contract with a Textile Conservator for the
re-housing of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts textile collection.

Timeframe of Contract: This contract is for a ninety day period to
begin during October 1998. This ninety day period may, but does not
need to run in ninety consecutive days.  The Museum prefers the
Textile Conservator to provide services on a 2 or 3 days per week
basis for the equivalent time.

Services to be Performed: The Textile Conservator will be working
under the supervision of the Museum's Conservator of Objects and in
conjunction with a museum registrar.  The Textile Conservator will
be managing and carrying out the re-housing plan, assisting with
ordering equipment and supplies, training and supervising
technicians, interns and/or volunteers.  The project will entail
following a re-housing plan, checking measurements, cutting and
fabricating supports, vacuuming, sewing on labels and placing the
re-housed textiles into their new storage cabinets.

Qualifications: The conservator shall have a graduate degree from a
recognized art conservation program with an emphasis in textiles or
demonstrated equivalent experience and training.  Previous
experience in re-housing collections is an additional consideration.
Those responding to this request shall demonstrate the ability to
work well as a team player and shall demonstrate exceptional
organizational skills.

Payment for Services Rendered: Compensation is negotiable depending
on the successful applicants level of experience.
