The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is an agency of the Commonwealth of
Virginia.  The Museum has a mission of educating the public in Fine
Arts. In this endeavor, the Museum is charged with the care of a
Fine Arts Collection.

Purpose of Contract: To contract with a Conservation Intern with
specialization in textiles or objects with ethnographic or textile
experience for the re-housing of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
textile collection.

Timeframe of Contract: This contract is for a twelve month period
beginning in October 1998.

Services to be Performed: The Conservation Intern will be working
under the supervision of the Museum's Conservator of Objects and in
conjunction with an experienced consulting textile conservator and a
museum registrar.  The intern will be carrying out a re-housing
plan, assisting with ordering equipment and supplies, training and
supervising technicians and/or volunteers.  The project will entail
checking measurements, cutting and fabricating supports, vacuuming,
sewing on labels and placing the re-housed textiles into their new
storage cabinets.

Qualifications: The intern shall have a graduate degree from a
recognized art conservation program with an emphasis in textiles or
ethnographic objects or demonstrated equivalent experience and
training.  Previous experience in re-housing collections is an
additional consideration.  Those responding to this request shall
demonstrate the ability to work well as a team player and shall
demonstrate exceptional organizational skills.

Payment for Services Rendered: Payment will be every 2 weeks with a
total for the twelve months not to exceed $18,000.00.
