Double-sided tape

Neschen AG makes a variety of double sided mounting adhesives all
using what I am told is a polyacrylic ester in a water dispersion.
As the general meager for the "archival" products division of
Neschen USA, I recently sent one of these products, Gudy-870, a
transfer adhesive, to the Image Permanence Institute for their PAT.
The product received a passing grade (copies and sample rolls
available for the asking) and while this does not make the product
"archival" in the truest sense (as it is not easily reversible) it
does say something about the long term stability of the product.

Gudy-870 is available in a narrow width roll and while it is not
compatible with the 3M dispenser it can be applied easily by hand.
Talas in NYC carries this size in addition to wider rolls for
permanent photo mounting. At the risk of revealing complete
ignorance I have to ask does joining window mats really require the
same level of "archival reversibility" as do hinges attached to the
artwork?
