Subject: Research
This [Surface cleaning paper] brings up another question with regard to Lisa Mibach's concern over the new popularity of PVOH and Mark Vine's question about the use of Plexol B500. The CCI seems to do so much work on practical problems in conservation while the Conservation Analytical Laboratory seems to be less interested in such problems in the past 5 or 6 years. Again I have to wonder why we practicing conservators have to take up the slack, doing our own original research for which we can look to no public or foundation source for support, while the CAL is supposed to be doing this work. One wonders what our tax money is paying for? I certainly hope Bert's changing the name to cover analysis of materials won't end up in a lot of belly button contemplation with little practical application.
