Call for papers--Paintings

Call for contributions:
ICOM-CC  Working Groups: Paintings I & Paintings II
Joint Interim Meeting, Dublin, September 1998.
Image or Object? The Influence of Treatment on the Interpretation of
Paintings.

Short contributions are invited on issues affecting our reading of
paintings. They may cover any aspect of conservation intervention,
from decision-making to policies for display, including structural
conservation, varnish removal and reintegration. Topics of
particular interest would be the concept of minimal intervention and
its implications, treatment frequency, the challenge of interventive
preventive measures, policies for displaying fragments, tolerance of
inherent paint film and texture defects, and historical research
impinging on treatment decisions.

Papers should be short [not more than 20 minutes] and may present
ongoing 'working' hypotheses and ideas. There will be no post- or
preprints. If you would like to participate in the meeting, full
abstracts should be submitted by 1st May 1998 to Caroline Villers,

It is hoped to embrace all aspects of the treatment of paintings and
to create a forum for lively discussion. Seating is limited and
preference will be given to members of the ICOM-CC Working Groups.

The programme for the meeting will be announced in May 1998.
