Subject: Call for papers--ICOM
As many of you may know the 18th General Conference of ICOM will be held in Melbourne, Australia, 10-16 October 1998. The ICOM Conservation Committee organisers invite conservators or those in the conservation field to submit proposals for papers for presentation at a half-day conservation session addressing the theme of the conference, 'Museums and Cultural Diversity--Ancient cultures, New Worlds.' A synopsis for your paper addressing the theme of the conference is required by May 15, 1998. Please email, fax, or post to the contact person listed below. Please note that none of the papers from any sessions will be published. A joint session on Conservation Training is planned, as well as a debate devoted to the topic 'Tourism Won't Be Sustained Unless Conservation Programs are Maintained.' Joint sessions and the debate require discussion only as contributions. For those who wish to contribute individual technical papers, a half-day Special Interest Group (SIG) session has been proposed. Should you wish to contribute a paper to this session please contact your SIG coordinator directly. All sessions will be simultaneously translated in French. If you feel that your contribution fits within the scope of any of these program activities please contact the conservation session organisers below. Correspondence with the organising committee in French in welcomed.
