Appointments at University of Maryland Libraries

Ethel Hellman has been appointed as UM Libraries' first professional
conservator. Ethel came to UM Libraries in the fall after completing
a collections conservation internship at Princeton University and
her Masters in Library Science with a Certificate in Conservation
from the University of Texas at Austin.  Elise Thall Calvi began as
Assistant Department Head/Brittle Materials and Reformatting Unit
Head in November 1997.  Elise had directed the Walters Art Gallery
Library for several years and previously worked in Harvard
University Library's Preservation Office.  Yvonne Carignan became
Preservation Department Head last summer, having previously served
the department as acting and assistant department head during the
past three years.
