The Illinois State Historical Library, a division of the Illinois
Historic Preservation Agency, is inviting applications for the
following permanent part-time position (.80 FTE):

Library Associate
Illinois State Historical Library
Old State Capitol Building
Springfield, Illinois
Salary Range:   $1885.00 to 2636.00 per month
Hours of Work:
8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Monday-Thursday or
8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Monday-Friday

General Description: Performs highly skilled technical work in the
conservation treatment and preservation of valuable historical
library materials, using various conservation laboratory and
environmental monitoring equipment, including but not limited to:
board shear, standing book press, manually operated guillotine
cutter, ultrasonic welder, polyester film cutter, heated tools,
hygrothermograph, and psychrometer.

Requirements: Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development
equivalent to completion of four years college with courses in
library science. Requires knowledge of history, art-related
subjects, and/or organic chemistry.  Requires one year internship in
the restoration/conservation of documents and books, or equivalent
experience.  Requires working knowledge of different types of
library materials. Requires manual dexterity and the ability to
execute complex treatment techniques with precision and attention to
detail.  Requires ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.; to
tolerate exposure to mold and dust.  Requires working knowledge of
computer functions, setting up data bases, and searching on-line
sources for information.  Requires ability to type and photocopy.
