Storage of posters

The comments made by George Leake III (Conservation DistList
Instance: 10:51, November 27, 1996) are excellent. I would only add
two things. One, we found that working with charts that we could
safely put five or so charts in a folder without creating a damaging
environment because the folders were still easy to remove from the
map case and the charts did not move in the folders. Furthermore,
the folders were still light enough that one person could handle
them and remove them from the drawer without any problem. Two,
something that is probably even more important, however, and may
well be implied, but it is critical that the folders fill the
complete map drawer. Do not put in smaller folders that cover only
part of the poster. The folder should fill the map drawer and go
beyond the poster in all directions to protect their edges.
