Polyethylene sleeves

From: Marsha Maguire <marsham>
Date: Wednesday, December 4, 1996
We just purchased several thousand polyethylene sleeves for housing
paper and print items in our archival/museum collection. When I
found these sleeves in the company's catalog, I was thrilled because
before seeing these, we'd been unable to locate 9" x 12" and 11" x
14" poly sleeves without flaps. The company is Uline Shipping
Supply Specialists, and their catalog describes the sleeves as
having been made from "virgin polyethylene." Uline claimed over the
phone that these were safe for archival items.

But we just received the sleeves and I wonder. Instead of being
clear, the plastic is slightly cloudy, and there's a funny smell to
it. Has anyone out there ordered from Uline; are they dependable?
How can I tell whether or not we should use these sleeves?
Many, many thanks,

Marsha Maguire
