Painted stainless steel

I am posting this query on behalf of Jonathan Taggart, objects conservator,

Jonathan would like to hear from anyone having experience with
painted stainless steel artworks.  He is consulting with an artist
who would like to incorporate painted areas or coatings on a
stainless steel substrate, presumably not highly polished.
