Subject: Propolis
In response to Barbara Appelbaum's suggestions for Allister Guy's request on the use of propolis by conservators, I would like to suggest an additional source of information. BCIN, the international bibliographic database on conservation is available from the Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN). It is now available (by subscription) on the World Wide Web at http://www.chin.gc.ca . I searched "propolis" in the subject box and retrieved 13 documents. (The subject search looks in the titles, subject keywords and abstracts for the words selected). Of the 13 documents found, 10 of them were originally published in AATA. There were also 2 references from CAL and one from the ICCROM Library. There are seven contributors to BCIN, including AATA, the Conservation Analytical Laboratory, the ICCROM Library, the Canadian Conservation Institute Library, the UNESCO-ICOM Museum Information Centre, the ICOMOS Documentation Centre and the Getty Conservation Institute Library. There are over 150,000 records in the database, relating to conservation of cultural property. Although there is English access through a translated title field, abstracts and subject keywords, over half of the documents are in languages other than English. We find BCIN, like AATA, an invaluable information resource.
