Tulane University Library invites nominations and applications for
the Head of the Preservation Department.  The position reports to
the Assistant University Librarian for Technical Services,
supervises 4 paraprofessional staff, and is responsible for managing
and leading the preservation program for the general collections at
Tulane. Responsibilities:  Oversees the daily operation of the
Department to ensure that materials move in a timely and
cost-effective manner; Supervises commercial and inhouse binding,
conservation, and reformatting activities; Hires, trains, and
supervises staff; Establishes departmental goals and provides for
their evaluation; Coordinates library-wide staff/user education
programs; Maintains environmental monitoring program; Maintains
disaster plan; Prepares grant proposals for preservation activities;
Initiates and administers collections maintenance needs analysis for
the general collections; Other duties and responsibilities as
assigned.

Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited MLS; Knowledge of
preservation and conservation practices and techniques as
demonstrated through previous relevant experience and/or successful
completion of a formal program or internship in the preservation of
research library materials; Excellent oral and written
communications skills; Excellent interpersonal skills; Commitment
to professional involvement, preferably at the national level;
Strong service orientation; Flexibility to manage a  variety of
tasks with varying time pressures and constantly changing
priorities.

Preferred:  Prior library experience in an academic or research
library; Supervisory experience; Sufficient knowledge of
bibliographic control concepts to direct bibliographic searching for
reformatting of materials; Familiarity with one or more modern
European languages.

Salary/Benefits:  Rank and salary commensurate with experience,
minimum $26,000.00; Excellent benefits, choice of health plans,
immediate tuition waiver for self, and undergraduate tuition waiver
