Esther J. Piercy Award Nominations Sought

The Esther J Piercy Award recognizes achievement in the areas of
library collections and technical services by a librarian with not
more than ten years of professional experience who has shown
outstanding promise for continuing contribution and leadership.
Sponsored by the ALCTS division of the American Library Association
and funded with a $1500 grant from Yankee Book Peddler this award is
a significant honor in the profession.

Nominations should include:

    1.  Name of nominee;

    2.  Date nominee entered first professional position;

    3.  Formal statement of nomination with a  brief rationale for
        the nomination, together with a resume or narrative career
        outline upon which the award jury can base its
        determinations.

Criteria: Evidence of the promise of the nominee is determined by
the person's accomplishments as they are related to library
collections and/or technical services, in such activities as:

    1.  Leadership in professional associations at local, state,
        regional or national level;

    2.  Contributions to the development, application or utilization
        of new or improved methods, techniques and routines;

    3.  Significant contribution to professional literature; and

    4.  Conduct of studies or research in the technical services.

Some of the past winners include:  October Ivins, Nancy Elkington,
Barbara Winters, Carol Hawks, Jan Merrill-Oldham, John Duke, Pamela
Darling, Michael Malinconico, John Byrum, and Richard Dougherty.

Nominations should be sent by December 1, 1996 to:
