We are now in the process of mailing the application forms for next
years Society of Bookbinders Biennial Conference which is to be held
in Durham City, England on the 3rd-6th of July 1997.

If you are interested in attending or exhibiting or have any
enquiries, please contact me as soon as possible for inclusion on
the mailing list.

Speakers will include:

    Trevor Jones - Fellow of the Designer Bookbinders - Talk and
    Demo on the theme of sources of inspiration for design along
    with some practical aspects of his work.

    Dr Mirjam Foot - Director of Collections and Preservation at the
    British Library - Book conservation policies, practices and
    methods at the British Library and the importance of bookbinding
    history.

    Simon Haigh - Licentiate of the Designer Bookbinders - Practical
    demonstration of many aspects of board attachment, traditional
    and modern.

    Jan Blake - Illustrated lecture on the binding of the "Titanic"
    (This is not a reflection of size it's the one that sank with
    the ship!!) copy of the Rubiayat of Omar Khayyam, and on
    Sangorski and Sutcliffe.

    Edmund King - British Library Conservation Department -
    Victorian decorated book covers.

    Dr Derek Priest - Lecturer, Dept. of Paper Science at UMIST,
    Manchester - Paper permanence and the latest developments in
    paper research including an update on the lignin controversy.

    Peter Jones - Fellow of the Designer Bookbinders - Techniques
    used on his style of design binding.

    Norman Armes - Senior Conservator, Swansea on Health and Safety
    aspects of using adhesives and chemicals in bookbinding.

    John Mitchell - Lecturer -  A practical demonstration of account
    binding

    Maureen Duke - Lecturer -  A practical demonstration of
    conservation techniques used on books in the National Library of
    Romania.

    Robert Child - Head of Conservation at the National Museum and
    Galleries of Wales - A lecture on mould and insects in relation
    to looking after small libraries and book collections.

    Trade Exhibition - with a wood engraving demonstration and
    private press stands along side suppliers of leather, paper,
    cloth, tools, equipment, &c.

Plus, seminars on production of Gold foils, manufacture of bookcloth,
and finishing tools. (Other lectures to be confirmed.)
