Water sensors

Has anyone had experience with the usefulness of water sensors for
the early detection of leaks, burst pipes, etc.?  Our facilities
manager is considering this as an option to monitor inaccessible
spaces.  The price for such a system warrants careful evaluation.  I
would appreciate any responses as soon as possible in preparation
for presentation this week.
