Title:  Librarian I, Collections Conservator
Location: Preservation Department, Technical Services Division
Category:  Associate Staff, Full-Time (12 Month Appointment)
Salary:  Commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:  Under the general direction of the Head of the
Preservation Department, this newly-created position of Collections
Conservator manages the work of the Conservation Unit, integrates
its functions with those of the Preservation Department and other
departments and libraries within the UMCP Libraries system. Provides
professional expertise in determining the proper course of treatment
for all library and archival materials in need of conservation,
trains and supervises staff involved in conservation treatment,
executes a wide range of conservation treatments on paper-based
library and archival materials, and arranges for other professional
conservation services that cannot be accomplished in-house.
Conservation services are extended to all libraries within the
College Park campus.

Qualifications: Required:  ALA-accredited Master's degree in library
science; graduate studies and/or extensive training in a recognized
conservation facility.

Experience:  Required:  A minimum of three years of relevant
professional experience.  Ability to plan and carry out a
collections conservation program.  Demonstrated conservation
treatment skill.  Strong organizational and supervisory skills,
including the ability to train, supervise and assess work; to plan,
organize, and direct work flow and physical space.  Strong
interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate
effectively both orally and in writing.  Ability to work
independently, to exercise sound judgment, and to effect change.

Desirable:  Five years experience in conservation in an academic or
research library or archives.  Knowledge of commercial library
binding technology and its appropriate application.  Evidence of
continuing education and growth in the field of conservation.

Benefits:  22 days annual & 3 personal days; 14 paid holidays; 15
