Conservators' authority in art museums

In regard to Richard Perry's query on decision-making authority in
museums (Cons DistList Instance 10:4), I would suggest a discussion
with the AIC Ethics Committee (present chair, Paul Himmelstein)
because of discussions that led into this section of the Code of
Ethics.  There have been questions over the years in regard to the
institutional equivalent of a signature on a treatment proposal for
private conservators.  This relates, of course, to official
authority, not necessarily to the actual process by which decisions
are made.
