Corroding metal cans

Recently we have been asked to conserve 17 metal cans taken from
Evans Hut (Antarctica).  The cans are in poor condition and are
corroding quite badly. All the cans have food inside and some of
them are leaking. The paper labels are also deteriorating and in
need of stabilisation.

We are in the process of developing a treatment methodology and
would appreciate any other information that might be help us ensure
that the cans can be treated properly. Thank you for your time,
