NEA, NEH, and IMS funding

NEA/NEH/IMS Funding Action Alert.
Now is the time to impress upon your Senators the importance of
federal funding for cultural programs.

The Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee is expecting to
markup its version of the FY 97 funding measure as early as the end
of the week of July 8. On June 20, the House of Representatives
passed the FY 97 Interior Appropriations bill with $99.5 million
proposed for the NEA, $104.5 million for the NEH, and $21 million
for IMS.

Please contact your Senators, especially those members of the
subcommittee listed here. Ask them to reaffirm the Senate's
commitment of last year to continue funding for NEA, NEH, and IMS,
and to support the agencies at the increased levels proposed in the
Administration's budget-- $136 million each for the arts endowment
and humanities endowment, and $23 million for the IMS. As always,
let your Senators know why the cultural agencies are important to
your organization.

The contacts you make with your Senators will help demonstrate the
constituent support in your state for the National Endowment for the
Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute
for Museum Services.

Please send copies of your letters to AIC as they will be used in
advocacy packets which will be distributed to key Senators before
the Senate floor vote later this summer.
