Subject: ALA PARS Discussion Groups
The PARS Preservation Microfilm Discussion Group will meet at the Hilton (Mercury Rotunda), Saturday, July 6, 1996, from 11am-12:30pm. Paul Conway will moderate a discussion on the implications of microfilm digitization for the creation of new preservation film. Paul heads the Preservation Department at Yale University Library and has just completed a NEH-sponsored project to convert 2,000 books on microfilm to digital image files. He will distribute a checklist of possible technical improvements in film and review the potential impact of such improvements on the cost and quality of the resulting digital images. The PARS Electronic Imaging Discussion Group to be held at the NY Hilton (Morgan Suite) on July 6, 1996 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm will focus on a discussion of image capture devices. Steve Chapman of Cornell University and Keith Purdy of Direct Image, Inc. will set the stage for discussion.
