From: Joan Gatewood <jgatewood>
Date: Friday, June 28, 1996
The PARS Preservation Microfilm Discussion Group will meet at the
Hilton (Mercury Rotunda), Saturday, July 6, 1996, from 11am-12:30pm.
Paul Conway will moderate a discussion on the implications of
microfilm digitization for the creation of new preservation film.
Paul heads the Preservation Department at Yale University Library
and has just completed a NEH-sponsored project to convert 2,000
books on microfilm to digital image files. He will distribute a
checklist of possible technical improvements in film and review the
potential impact of such improvements on the cost and quality of the
resulting digital images.

The PARS Electronic Imaging Discussion Group to be held at the NY
Hilton (Morgan Suite) on July 6, 1996 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm will focus
on a discussion of image capture devices. Steve Chapman of Cornell
University and Keith Purdy of Direct Image, Inc. will set the stage
for discussion. Chapman will discuss flat bed scanners and similar
capture devices and Purdy will discuss digital cameras.
