Date: Thursday, April 11, 1996
The Wisconsin Preservation Program (WISPPR) and Wisconsin
InterLibrary Services (WILS) wish to announce the upcoming WILS
World '96 Conference on Technology and Preservation, which will be
held on June 12-13, 1996, in Madison, Wisconsin. Preservation

    * Life Expectancies of Photographic & Electronic Options

Peter Adelstein, Senior Research Associate with the Image
Permanence Institute, Rochester Institute of Technology, will
provide a comparison of the permanence of silver halide media
versus magnetic tape and optical disk, and a review of
    standardization activities in these technologies.

    *  Digital Imaging

Michael Ester, President, Luna Imaging, will discuss issues in
embarking on digital imaging projects. Luna Imaging is both a
publisher and a service provider in digital imaging, and
recently completed the digitizing of the Frank Lloyd Wright

U.S. Copyright Office, Library of Congress, will discuss the
report "Intellectual Property and the National Information
Infrastructure," and the aspects of copyright in the electronic

concerning the impact on our future as information providers and
preservers in the context of copyright law and the new digital
    media.

    * University of Wisconsin-Madison Digital Imaging Projects

Sandra Paske, of the UW-Madison General Library System
Microimaging Lab, will describe the role of the Library System,
not only as a user, but also as a producer/publisher in the
digital imaging world. Paske will review recent digital imaging
projects and discuss how the library got involved, what it has
taken in terms of staff and equipment, and what products have
    resulted.
