Responsibilities:  Directs collection management and  assessment
activities for the UTK Libraries. This position reports to the Dean
of Libraries and provides leadership and management for all
collection-related activities, including preservation, in a
collaborative organizational environment. Shares in library
management, planning, and decision-making through the Library
Management Group and its subgroups. At full staff, will supervise
five librarians and four support staff. Coordinates collection
development and management activities of approximately 25 librarians
whose primary assignments are in other areas including reference
services and branch libraries. Allocates and manages a $4 million
materials budget. Formulates collection development policies and
communicates policies and decisions within the library and to the
wider university community.

Qualifications:  ALA-accredited MLS. A minimum of four years of
increasing   professional  responsibility  and  leadership  with
collection-related activities in an academic or research library.
Broad knowledge of and experience with academic/research library
collection development and management issues, information
technology, and automation.  Knowledge of trends in publishing and
higher education. Demonstrated experience in budget management.
Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
Commitment to fostering a collaborative work environment.
Demonstrated record of professional and scholarly activities.  This
is a tenure track appointment requiring the ability to meet
promotion and tenure criteria. Additional advanced degree is
desirable.

Benefits:  Librarians at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville have
faculty rank and status and are appointed for twelve months. This is
a tenure track appointment.  Library faculty must meet University
requirements for promotion and tenure.  Annual leave is accrued at
the rate of two days per month and sick leave at the rate of one day
per month.  Faculty have their choice of a state retirement plan or
TIAA/CREF.  Non-refundable contributions to either retirement plan
are paid for the employee by the University. Group health and life
insurance plans are available. Tuition remission is available for
all university employees; partial undergraduate tuition remission is
available to dependent children and spouses of UT employees.
