17th century stab-sewn English bindings

From: Mary E. Haude <haude>

I am researching the history of seventeenth century English bindings
which were stab-stitched through the side with three or five holes.
Middleton and Gaskell have provided some information on the history
of the stab-stitch bindings as they relate to English book
production in the seventeenth century. Can anyone suggest other
references which might contain information on the history of these
bindings?
