Subject: Albumen prints
We have many albumen photographs in our collection and recently I removed an acidic backing from one of these. The paper support on most albumen photos is extremely thin hence the tendency for the photo to curl, especially when the backing has been removed. I was wondering has anyone successfully relined an albumen photograph and managed to keep it from recurling? If so, what was used for the relining? The usual method is to use Japanese tissue to the strength and thickness of the original photo, has anyone tried any other methods, even if unsuccessfully? Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.
